EB Davis - I Write The Checks

Here is one outstanding offering from Elaine, Arkansas native EB Davis. I had not heard of Eb Davis before finding him listed on a web site for unsigned blues artists. I didn’t know what I was missing, as he is a great vocalist.

The very first track on this cd had my attention. It’s called The Weaker Sex, and is a fun song written by James Wheeler, bemoaning the alimony payments made by the subject. The next track, Glamour Girl, was penned by Aaron T. Walker, and is a slow number with some very nice guitar riffs in the intro and wonderful piano. Eb’s vocals are perfect on this song. He next covers a traditional blues song called Come Back Baby. He gives this cover a great old time sound and swing feel. We are treated to an original song from Eb next in Havin’ Myself A Ball. This is a shuffle at a slow tempo. Drivin’ Wheel written be Riley “B.B.” King is the next song covered, and features the sweet notes on guitar that B.B. King is famous for. Eb next tackles Jimmy Witherspoon’s Ain’t Nobody’s Business. For a song that has been covered by nearly everyone, Eb makes this song fresh with his treatment. Herman Lew’s Night Time Is The Right Time is next. I liked his treatment of this tune as well. He gives it that 50’s band era feel and carries the song along the beat wonderfully. The piano and sax are nice on this song as well as many others on this cd. He closes the cd with B.B. King’s Woke Up This Morning. This track is a live cut with a boogie rhythm. This cd was produced in the Czech and Eb is backed by Jan Korinek & Groove.

Eb was awarded best vocalist awards at the 2005 King Biscuit Festival in Helena, Arkansas. He now resides in Berlin, Germany with his lovely wife and keyboard player Nina T. Davis
